Which Cemeteries Are Open in New Orleans?

For the past decade in New Orleans, there have been a lot of changes to the accessibility of the city’s cemeteries. It can be confusing – here is the current status of some of New Orleans’ most popular cemeteries.

St. Louis Cemetery No. 3

St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 (425 Basin Street) is closed and only open to a specific tour group.

St. Louis Cemetery No. 2 (300 N. Claiborne) is closed due to vandalism and theft.

St. Louis Cemetery No. 3 (3421 Esplanade Ave) is open to the general public and to tour groups.

St. Roch Cemetery No. 1 (1725 St. Roch Ave) is open to the general public and to tour groups. However, the chapel and grotto are only open on the first Friday from 11AM to Noon.

St. Roch Cemetery No. 2 (1725 Music Street) is open to the general public and to tour groups.

Odd Fellows Rest (5055 Canal Street) is closed to the general public and is only accessible through certain tour companies.

Greenwood Cemetery (5190 Canal Blvd) is open to the general public.

Cypress Grove Cemetery (120 City Park Ave) is open to the general public.

Masonic Temple Cemetery (4900 Bienville Ave) is open to the general public and to tour groups.

Holt Cemetery (527 City Park Ave) is open to the general public. Note it is closed on Sundays.

Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 (1400 Washington Ave) is closed to the general public while it is undergoing renovations.

Lafayette Cemetery No. 2 (2100 Washington Ave) is open to the general public and to tour groups.

St. Joseph Cemetery No. 1 (2220 Washington Ave) is open to the general public and to tour groups.

Dispersed of Judah (4937 Canal St) is open to the general public. The entrance is in the 100 block of North Anthony Street.

Metairie Cemetery (5100 Pontchartrain Blvd) is open to the general public. Tour groups are limited.

No tours in the Catholic Cemeteries are allowed on All Saints Day (November 1st) or All Souls Day (November 2nd).

All Catholic Cemeteries are closed on Mardi Gras Day.
